Smart Alloy refurbishment procedure including alloy wheel colour changes

Our local Smart Alloy refurbishment technician, Tom, travels to the customer’s home address (or place of work) and starts by jacking up the customer’s car. He then takes the wheels off the vehicle and then breaks the beading and peels back the tyre from the face of the alloy in order to get behind the rim. The technician then strips, grinds and sands the alloy. The alloy is then cleaned and prepped before it is etch primed (this prevents the paint peeling off).

The alloy is then primed to help prevent corrosion occurring. In the example below, the customer asked for a colour change from silver to anthracite grey so that after priming, the alloy is wet sprayed anthracite grey within the van and then the paint is baked under IR lamps. Tom then applied a two pack lacquer with hardener. The lacquer is then in turn baked under the lamps in the van. It usually takes a technician 5 to 6 hours to refurbish 4 alloys and the car is ready to drive after the work is completed.

Smart Alloy Ltd offering our customers a professional mobile alloy wheel refurbishment service.

Our work is guaranteed for one year unless stated otherwise by the technician; the warranty does not cover damage or peeling caused by subsequent kerbing or scuffing. Smart Alloy vans are fitted out specifically for the refurbishment of alloy wheels and all work undertaken by our technicians is carried out within our mobile units ensuring that no over-spray contaminates your vehicle.
